CCTV recording and NVR disk triage

Live video does not prove that recording works. If storage is absent or abnormal, decide whether existing footage must be preserved before formatting.

Your inputs stay in this browser and are not sent to a server.

What this triage does

The recording path is split into camera stream, disk, policy, event detection, and time. A missing stream comes before schedule checks; a visible stream with no disk points to cabling, bay, or compatible-drive checks.

Incorrect time can store footage under the wrong date. Event recording also needs a working trigger and rule, not merely motion in the scene.

Stop conditions: protect data first

  • Evidence footage is near overwrite or has no second copy.
  • The recorder reports no HDD or Abnormal and preservation needs are unknown.
  • The drive clicks, overheats, or smells burnt.

Decision basis and official sources

Menu names and supported procedures vary by vendor and model. This tool does not replace official instructions; its rules are reviewed when sources change.

Next steps

After recording is restored, recalculate retention and review fault margin in the drive/RAID planner.
