Safe NAS connection triage

Do not reset a NAS merely because it is not visible. Separate power, IP, admin access, file sharing, and storage health before touching data.

Your inputs stay in this browser and are not sent to a server.

What this triage does

The tree separates five layers. If power is absent, file-service settings are irrelevant. If the admin page works but a share fails, inspect file services, permissions, and credentials before blaming the whole network. Any storage warning moves data protection ahead of convenience.

The result lists likely causes, a safe check order, actions to avoid, and the decision basis. It uses only the current local inputs.

Stop conditions: protect data first

  • There is burning smell, overheating, or repeated clicking.
  • The pool is crashed or degraded, or important files have no second copy.
  • The UI proposes an unexpected initialization, volume creation, or disk format.

Decision basis and official sources

Menu names and supported procedures vary by vendor and model. This tool does not replace official instructions; its rules are reviewed when sources change.
