Drive and storage-pool warning triage

Clearing an alert is not the same as protecting data. Verify readable data and restorable backups before replacement, repair, or rebuild.

Your inputs stay in this browser and are not sent to a server.

What this triage does

Pool state and drive state are separate because a single-drive alert and an inaccessible array carry different risks. Restore verification and mechanical noise determine whether to copy data first or inspect logs.

A RAID rebuild is a sustained full-read workload. This tool does not predict rebuild success; it places stop rules before any automatic repair action when no recoverable copy exists.

Stop conditions: protect data first

  • No verified backup exists while the pool is degraded or crashed.
  • A disk is missing, noisy, overheating, or smells burnt.
  • Multiple drives may be removed before recording bay numbers and drive order.

Decision basis and official sources

Menu names and supported procedures vary by vendor and model. This tool does not replace official instructions; its rules are reviewed when sources change.

Next steps

After protecting data, estimate RAID rebuild exposure and review the drive buying checklist.
